Get out of my Dream and into my Car

Today, despite feeling under the weather, I attended the Philadelphia Auto Show at the Convention Center with my husband for the second consecutive year.  Last year it was empty because of a snow storm.  This year it was jammed pack.  As soon as I was ready to take a picture, someone would bump me or walk in front of my camera.   The lighting in the vintage car section (my favorite) was terrible. It was almost impossible to get a decent shot without using the built-in-flash.  Needless to say, I only managed to get a few good shots.

Here is my Photo of the Day:

There was something about the red leather interior that caught my attention.

Every Great Love Affair Must Come to an End :(

I've heard love is eternal, but every great love affair must come to and end.  Not everyone falls out of love; some people die.  My great love affair was a short one and now it has come to an end.

Dear Love of my Life,

My vision of life was sad and lonely until a friend of mine introduced me to you.  She told me about all the things you could do for me and convinced me to give you a try.  I was intimidated by all of your presets, treatment options, and organizational skills.  I played around with you for a few hours and was hooked on you.  You were a breath a fresh air.  I soon realized how unsatisfied I was with the other ones in my life.  They were so limited in their capabilities.  You really showed me what it was all about.

I looked forward to seeing you everyday.  I wanted to see what you could do for me.  Those long nights with you was completely worth the lack of sleep and giant bags underneath my eyes.  You could lighten any situation, but you could also bring out my dark side.  My friends and family even noticed a difference. They would ask me if I was doing something different.  They wanted to know my secret.  I was hesitant to tell others about you.   I knew that once they knew about you they would try and get their hands on you.

I hoped this day would never come, but it has.  We must go our separate ways.  I will always think of you when things are too dark, too light, or too drab. One of these days we will meet again (preferably on payday).   It's not you; it's me.  I'm broke.  I'll miss you Lightroom.

                                                                                                         Love,

                                                                                                         Aasiya

Having a BIG head does not mean I know everything

I attended my first photography class yesterday.  We managed to cover a lot of information in three hours.  We discussed everything from aperture, shutter speed, histograms, metering, white balance, and light metering.

Light metering? What the hell is that?

Apparently light metering is helpful when determining whether or not you need more or less light.  The light metering scale on your camera that runs from -2 (you need more light) to 0 (that's just right) to +2 (you need less light). I have noticed the light meter before, but never used it because I did not know how. I always played with the ISO, shutter speed and aperture until I was pleased with the photo. Who knew that the light meter could tell me which way I needed to adjust my settings.

So, now that I know all about light metering, I was able to take my first "properly exposed" photo. Before I unveil my "properly exposed" work of art I need to explain why the photo was taken indoors. Honestly, I was just being plain lazy. I wanted to take a nap, but ended up looking for basketball tickets online for about 2 hours. Afterwards, I thought I should probably do something with the hair that I have been hiding under a surgical cap for the last 5 days, but I also wanted to be beautiful for my husband.

My definition of beautiful: My hair washed and straightened, but hidden underneath the infamous animal printed cheetah scarf that he loves so much.  I want him to remember me just the way he left me!

So, here it is. My beautifully exposed photo:

Back to School

I am bursting at the seams with excitement. Today I officially begin my "Photography: Beginners" class at the University of the Arts. It was suppose to start last week, but that blasted snow storm ruined everything.  I don't think I can complain too much about last weeks storm because everywhere I walked was utterly picturesque #CheesyIknow.

No, it really was picturesque

I will get to learn all about fun things such as: lighting, exposure, aperture, and blah blah blah........
I hope I can stay awake for three hours, especially after working all day.
Am I boring you???

Sorry to have kept you. I know what you came here for.
So here it is:

Drip Drop

Last night I dreamed of a photograph;  beautiful ice covered branches. When I awoke this morning I was simply disappointed. There were no frosted cover trees, but there was ice everywhere else.  I really did not enjoy sliding all the way to work this morning.

By the time I left work the ice had melted away.  I took Iggy (A.K.A Little F#ck3R, Nacho, Ignacio) for a walk.  On our way to the house I noticed raindrops on the tips of tree branches. So, I grabbed my camera and returned for my photo of the day or at least I thought I did. I pictures I took looked clear to me on my little itty bitty camera screen, but they were actually a big blurry mess on my computer screen. I refused to go outside again because it is FREEZING!  I tried to recreate the raindrops by spraying water on a house plant to no avail.  After using language that is unbecoming of a lady (insert expletive here),  I decided to return to that same water drop, with my tripod in tow.  I shoved my tripod in the snow and snapped away. I was confident that I had a lot of shots to choose from but only ended up with two.

I present to you Photo # 32 of 365: The Drop

If you look really hard at the bottom right-hand corner of the droplet you can see my reflection.

Below are some of the other photos I took today:

Same picture as about but in B&W

A little more up close and personal with a more natural look

Which one do you prefer???
